Smarter Responses, Smoother Experience
This week, our AI assistant became noticeably smarter — not only understanding user queries, but also responding with personalized content across music, weather, and news.

🎶 Music API Fully Integrated
We’ve successfully integrated YouTube Music into our assistant!
Here’s how it works:
When a user types a command like:“play a song by Coldplay”,the assistant fetches 5 song suggestions based on the artist.
The user can then tap on one of the listed songs to start playback — all inside the same screen, with no need to switch apps.
This feature marks a big step in real-time interactivity. The assistant doesn’t just follow static commands — it now responds with curated, clickable options.
☁️ City-Specific Weather Updates
Our weather feature now supports dynamic city input:
Type: “weather in Paris”
The display updates instantly to show the current weather conditions in Paris — temperature, description, humidity, wind, and more.
The system handles natural phrasing gracefully, offering a fluid user experience no matter which city is entered.
🗞️ News on Any Topic (That Sticks)
We’ve also upgraded our news system:
Type: “News about climate change”
The assistant displays headlines specifically related to that topic.
Want ongoing updates? Just hit refresh, and it will continue sourcing new articles on the same topic — no need to retype.
This ensures that users can track a topic of interest over time, not just receive one-off headlines. Especially for elderly users, this minimizes repetitive interaction and makes staying informed easier.
🔜 What’s Next?
In Week 6, we’re shifting gears toward:
Text-to-speech (TTS) so users hear responses aloud
Connecting speech input to the Raspberry Pi’s USB mic
Finishing touches on our UI
We’re also preparing for the leaflet that will be submitted on 6th of June.
🔗 IBM SkillsBuild + Design Thinking
This week’s progress reflects continued application of:
The “Build Your Own AI Assistant” course from SkillsBuild
IBM Design Thinking — especially accessibility and consistency. Each new feature is a step closer to creating a fully interactive, AI-powered companion for elderly users — one that feels simple, yet powerful.
